Reflecting on the Royal Welsh Show: Family Fostering Partners in Llanelwedd
We recently returned from another busy and productive few days at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show! Held annually at Llanelwedd (near Builth Wells in Powys), the Royal Welsh is one of Wales’s largest and most significant events, attracting thousands of visitors from across the country. As an independent fostering agency working throughout Wales, it’s a key opportunity for us to speak directly with people interested in fostering in Wales.
A Week of Valuable Conversations about Fostering in Wales
Over the course of four days, our team spoke with individuals, couples, and families who were curious about fostering in Wales or who had been considering it for some time but weren’t sure where to start. The show provides a rare opportunity to have relaxed, face-to-face conversations amongst a fantastic atmosphere.
Training and Support for Foster Parents in Wales
A common question from visitors at the show was, “What support is available?” It’s an important one—and the answer is central to our approach. At Family Fostering Partners, we offer all our foster parents comprehensive support and training before they welcome a child into their home. Once approved, the support and ongoing development opportunities continue. This includes in-person and online training, a dedicated link worker, regular support groups, and 24/7 phone support and fully paid membership to Foster Talk.
Fostering in Wales and the Role of Rural Communities
We had a number of conversations with individuals living in rural areas who recognised how their home environment could benefit a child requiring foster care. Space, routine, and a connection to the outdoors can all play an important part in helping children settle and thrive.
These discussions reminded us of the importance of reaching rural communities, not just for those fostering in Powys (where the Royal Welsh is held), but for those fostering and requiring foster care across all parts of Wales.
